SoliTek Solar Meets the Challenges of Vienna’s DOCKS Complex
A new solar installation has been completed on Landstraßer Gürtel in Vienna’s 3rd district, combining energy production with sound insulation. Commissioned by ARE Real Estate Vienna, who oversaw the entire project, this installation demonstrates how solar technology can address multiple urban challenges, delivering clean energy while enhancing local living conditions. The project was executed by 10hoch4, a leading photovoltaic provider in Austria renowned for large-scale solar installations, including rooftop systems, solar carports, and Agri-PV solutions.
The solar plant, part of the DOCKS complex, is designed to reduce noise for nearby buildings while generating clean energy. The structure’s inclination, ranging from 28° to 38°, ensures it captures sunlight effectively throughout the year. The system is 320 meters long and includes 1,088 solar modules, providing a total capacity of 402 kWp. It connects two buildings, creating a noise barrier and shading the space below.
This project required innovative solutions to overcome significant challenges, including high wind loads, a unique steel structure, and complex installation scenarios. To address these demands, careful consideration was given to the choice of materials and technologies. SoliTek SOLID Bifacial solar modules were chosen as the optimal solution for this project, thanks to their performance, durability, and adherence to stringent safety standards. As a European manufacturer specializing in solar modules for diverse integrated applications, SoliTek has extensive expertise in developing solutions for noise barrier projects along highways and railway infrastructure, as well as for building facades.
The SOLID Bifacial modules incorporate advanced bifacial technology, capturing sunlight from both sides to increase energy production by up to 35%. Their frameless design not only reduces dirt accumulation and simplifies maintenance but also enhances their sleek appearance, perfectly complementing the modern and innovative architecture of the DOCKS complex.
SoliTek panels are also renowned for their reliability and safety. Certified by DIBt (the German building authority) for overhead installations such as carports and terrace roofs, these modules meet the most demanding international safety standards. Their robust construction is engineered to endure extreme weather conditions, including snow loads of up to 10,500 Pa and hail impacts of up to 40 mm in diameter. Backed by a 30-year product warranty, SoliTek modules provide long-lasting, dependable performance, making them an ideal choice to address both the technical and aesthetic requirements of this unique project.
This project sets a new benchmark for multifunctional solar installations, combining energy production with urban infrastructure improvements to benefit the community.
